Medical Marijuana Recipes

Default Icon

With the coming legalization of marijuana and the medical uses continuing I decided to post a couple of recipes I found in an herb book, Field Guide to Herbs & Spices by Aliza Green. The entry on Cannabis I found very intriguing. The use of Cannabis in cooking has been a regular practice for centuries. Several cultures have used the uncultivated marijuana plant to cook with, using the seeds, leaves, and stems. In India the uncultivated marijuana stems and leaves are liquefied, called Bhang (bang) to refer to the Bengal Cannabis variety. Bhang is served with yogurt and a blend of sweet spices. Another common dish is a Moroccan recipe, Majoun. Then of course there is the all too familiar Jamaican Ganja, more potent and created from the resinous tops of the Cannabis plant. (Field Guide to Herbs & Spices)

Marijuana used medicinally has a lower tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) level than that used to get high from.  THC is the component that gets you high, thus the reason why varieties such as Ganja are so powerful, greater THC content. Not all marijuana is created equal. Medical marijuana has a higher content of cannabidiol which cancels out the THC, the cannabidiol is the active ingredient that reduces inflammation, thus reducing the pain. Where THC is the psycho-active ingredient in Cannabis that creates hallucinations and a high in recreational marijuana, medical marijuana does not have the same effect. (See References)

For those who are still learning there are several articles available that will help you to understand the vast differences. I am not condoning legalization of marijuana, especially the use of psychoactive varieties. But I do understand the need for medical marijuana. Who can tell the difference? Is the government going to go from clinic to clinic and home to home testing the marijuana to ensure it is medical and not recreational?  Also, smoking anything causes lung and heart problems. Since I cannot defeat the process here are some recipes and information for using Cannabis as a seasoning herb in your cooking.

Moroccan Majoun Recipe (from the book: Field Guide to Herbs & Spices)

!/4 ounce of marijuana tops: remove seeds and stems, dry the leaves and crumble.
Using a skillet, no oil or water, toss the leaves in to toast over lowest heat, when the aroma is released take off the heat.

1/4 c raisins
1/2 c walnuts, chopped
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground anise
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 c honey
1/2 c water
1 tbsp butter

Mix all ingredients (except butter), pouring the water over last, Add more water as needed so the mix is not too dry. Pour into your skillet, let simmer until the mix is soft and thick. By hand mash until well blended or using a food processor use at least four pulses. Your mixture should be well blended and consistent. Stir in 1 tbsp butter.

Spoon into a jar, seal and refrigerate. Majoun will keep for 2 to 3 months in the refrigerator.

Uses: as a spread on crackers or cookies, also used a stuffing in cookies.

You can add marijuana seeds to bread before baking as you would sesame seeds.

Remember To:

Default Icon
  • Express Gratitude for all things in life.
  • Love without fear
  • Be Bodacious
  • Laugh, giggle, smile all the time
  • Sing out of tune, dance as if no one is watching.
  • Be the person you were created to be.
  • Be the change you wish to see
  • Do not complain, yet have a 5 minute whine party.

You have permission to be the person you are, to stop hiding, to live life loudly and graciously. Permission is yours to change your mind, make u-turns, do things different, not like everything your partner, friends, family and co-workers do. Permission is granted to disagree and say so. Permission belongs to you to feel your emotions, cry at commercials and movies, laugh loudly at the movies and at commercials. You do not need to ask to be human, feel, think, or play.

You DO NOT have permission to harm, hit, demean, treat badly, abuse, molest, rape, kill, or bring any sort of harm to another. You DO NOT have permission to meet your needs at another’s expense, to bring your self pleasure through cheating someone, take what is not yours, lie to others, but you can lie to yourself all you want.

This is a short reminder of being human, living in love, gratitude, and following the path of prophets of old. All are welcome to share the journey with me this day. In all things this credo holds true: Do as thou wilt, an no harm to none. You have permission to be the human that brings you the most pleasure as long as you are not harming another. But, it is suggested that you remember to not harm self either, “no harm to none” applies to you. How you treat yourself is the most important aspect of living in love, today you are the person you were meant to be. Today you are the only one who can bring you happiness, pleasure, provide for you. No one else is responsible, but you. Harm none, you are the first item on the list.

I love you, God and Goddess loves you, the Universe loves you. Now, love yourself. With love no harm occurs.

Blessings and healing is yours, all you need do is say “I accept.”

Reminder: This is what I desire.

As already noted the first 7 to 14 days of recovery can be rough. The withdrawal is more than physical, it is mental, emotional, the spirit is crying to be heard. The body is working at normalizing without the substance, the mind is learning to function on its own, thoughts are running rampant. This is not a normal state to live in. You have spent time becoming who you are this day, now it is going to take time to become who you have chosen to become. Finding your way in the muck of early recovery is frightening, lonely, disparaging at times, you begin wondering what you thought you were doing.

The DESIRE to remain sober wavers, the DESIRE to fix what is wrong is strong. Time to renew the decision to give up the old way of life and remain on the path to recovery. Today write a letter to your old way of life, explain why you are leaving. Discuss the misery, unmanageability that has controlled your life is not beneficial any longer. Write until there is nothing more to write. Now explain what you seek, the blessings and peace you desire in your life. Discuss your goals, the reasons why you are here today. When you are through sign and date it. Fold it, place it in an envelope addressed to the old way of life, name it what you will. Place it where you can find it again. The next time you feel this need to run away, to return to your old way of life, take it out, read it. If you find you need to add more, then do so. Let this letter be your reminder of why you are here today, why you have chosen to recover.

Where ever you are, when ever you are tempted, remember the letter. If the temptation is strong, the DESIRE overwhelming to use again, REMEMBER the letter, go home and get it out and read it again. No, you cannot carry it with you, that would defeat the purpose. When you wish to use read the letter, keep doing that no matter what. No matter where you are you have to go home and get the letter to read. It does not matter if you are at work, the bargain is you have to read the letter before you pick up a drug, drink, gamble, what ever the substance. That is the contract you make when you write the letter.

Blessings on your journey. I am here with you traveling the path to recovery. Know that the Universe will provide all you need to is ask, then accept.

May we meet again.

Hello World, Welcome!

Good Day,

I do hope this finds you well and happy. This is the first day of a new life, each breath refreshes me and brings me healing. I am!

This is the new site for me, Connie S Owens, from here there are many more changes to come. Soon there will be a membership site, on line training, support groups, and I am so looking forward to our growth together.

Over the next few days more articles, information, and healing resources will be added. I am open for suggestions, if there is anything at all you are most interested in gaining a deeper insight, information, please send me an email with your ideas and requests.

This is a place for your healing, I receive that which I freely give and it does me not when I do not share.

My services include many aspects to healing and recovery. Learning how to live sober/drug free when there are so many challenges to life is not a journey one should take on her/his own. This is a journey that should have companions, those who can remain silent, ask what you need, and support you no matter what comes. This is a difficult assignment for both parties, those who make a decision to recover and those who make the decision to offer support. The goal of this sight is to offer the person seeking a major life style change and those offering support a place to find answers, support, a sense of community. Together we build the village.

I appreciate your visit and look forward to sharing this wonderful life of recovery with you. It may be a bit rocky at first, but eventually the path is easier to navigate when you collect the tools to guide you.

Blessings abound to your and yours.

I offer healing energy to enter into your life as you read these words, all you have to do is accept it.
